A Teen's Take: Why Pirates Games Are a Home Run for Families

By Grace Sheehan June 11, 2026

If you’re looking for something fun to do on a warm summer day in Pittsburgh, I definitely recommend going to a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. My family and I recently spent the day at the ballpark, and it was the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time together.

Grace is a rising senior at Peters Township High School and was given tickets to attend this event; however, all opinions are her own.

The day was sunny and warm, but a cool breeze kept us comfortable, especially when we were sitting in the shade. As soon as we got inside PNC Park, we started exploring and checking out all the different food options. One of my favorite parts of the day was the food. We shared crab fries with cheese, chicken tenders, pizza, and ice cream served with a giant cookie. Everything was delicious, and trying all the different foods made the experience even more fun.

Of course, the game itself was exciting too. The Pirates played great and ended up winning 9-3. It was fun watching the players on the field and hearing the crowd react to all the big moments throughout the game. My favorite memory from the day was during the seventh-inning stretch. Everyone stood up together, sang along, and enjoyed the atmosphere of the stadium. It was one of those moments that made the experience feel special and reminded me why live sporting events are so much fun.

There was plenty to do outside of watching the game as well. Ryder received his first game certificate, which was a really special moment for our family. Quinn had a great time playing on the kids’ playground, and we spent time walking around the stadium, taking pictures, and enjoying the views. Watching everyone have fun and make memories together was one of the best parts of the day.

Between the amazing food, beautiful weather, family memories, and a Pirates win, it was an unforgettable day at the ballpark. Whether you’re a huge baseball fan or just looking for something fun to do with family and friends, a Pirates game is a great way to spend a summer afternoon.
